ACPAAA Presentation to the Allen Police Department for the Special Olympics Torch Run

The Special Olympics Summer Games Torch Run will be in May 2009 this year. Officers from APD participate in raising funds for the Special Olympics and volunteer during the Summer Games. The Officers also will run approximately 5 miles each in Allen the day before the games to raise awareness of the Special Olympics. The day of the games there is a “Final Leg Torch Run” in which all of the Officers from around the state that are participating run 1 mile together into the host stadium, to begin the games.

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics movement worldwide. Law Enforcement Officers from every state and more than 34 countries carry the Flame of Hope in honor of the Special Olympics athletes in their area and around the world. We will begin selling Torch Run T-Shirts to raise money in the Police Department lobby. Below is a picture of the gray T-shirt. They are $10 each and $12 for 2XL. We will also be raising money through donations from area businesses. If anyone knows of a business that would like to donate, please contact one of the Torch Runners and head them in the right direction. APD TORCH RUNNERS: Whitman, J.
